| In 2005 through the prompting and guidance of Father Matthew Attansey and Deacon James Hunt, the St. Vincents Thrift Store was begun and thrived in its first location in St. Philip's Church basement. Frances Madsen was the initial source of the unique thrift store know-how: organization of and following through with arrangement and implementation of THE PLAN. This people-oriented facility is now located at 107 Main Avenue in Hankinson. St. Vincents continues in its basic premise of volunteers providing the structure to receive donated goods, sorting, and then "presenting" such goods to the public for their purchase and use. Our mission also includes providing household goods and/or clothing at little or no cost if needs warrant. Local school officials are helpful in calling us about families in need of our assistance, so that we can help provide whatever their needs may be: clothing, footwear, bedding, dishes, furniture, kitchen utensils. We can also provide assistance with groceries, fuel for a vehicle or home with a phone call to local businesses. We have been able to respond to local charitable fund-raisers with cash donations. The Rape and Abuse Crisis Center of the YWCA of Fargo has been the recipient of clothing and goods for both the young women and their children. From the combined efforts of a Fairmount, ND church group and St. Vincents. This collaborative effort has produced much joy and satisfaction for all involved. A small room, within our larger display and sales area, serves as THE TOY ROOM. The young people that visit us with their parent(s) are thrilled to have their own play room. "Materials" in this room are for their use and/or purchase at a nominal fee. |

R. Amen. |
